Here are a few steps, which you should follow initially.
1. Disable unwanted notifications.
2. Disable location services which you don't need.
3. Reduce the brightness of the screen.
4. Reduce the auto-lock time to minimum value[30sec-1min]
5.Turn off Wi Fi when not needed.
6. Turn off blue tooth when not needed.
7. Turn off push email or internet access when not needed.
8. Close applications that may be running in the background. [these eat up a lot of battery life].
In any IOS device, double-press the home screen button and hold
your finger on any icon on screen until the icons start wriggling and
then press the minimize button to close the apps running in the
background.
